I wouldn’t liken operating trains with left handed controls vs right handed to the difference between manual and stick shift. The difference between manual and stick shift is more appropriate as a comparison between operating an ME-23 (R-9) brake and an ME-42 (SMEE) brake valve or back in IRT days between operating a Hi-V with manual 10 point acceleration and a Lo-V with 3 point automatic acceleration.
