The problem was with having stainless steel shells over carbon steel frames unlike Budd which was 100% stainless. otherwise St Louis built equipment lasted a good long time on the NYCTA in the form of the R-17s through 22s, the R-27s and 30s and the R-29s, 33s and 36s. |
