And what about MNRR going to lower Manhattan?

Ah, pipe dream territory. Imagine GCT being at the Battery instead of 42nd Street? Might have been possible if NYC didn't ban steam in lower Manhattan. Could have been a shared through station with the CNJ/B&O too if they did things right; direct trains from Washington to Albany via the B&O's route, imagine that.

Never mind the MTA really missing their chance to turn St. John's Park Terminal into a passenger station. PATH just a few blocks away, and a direct shot up the Hudson to Poughkeepsie without the need for dual-mode locos.
