It's not a myth. The city council absolutely instituted and enforced those bans, excepting of course the elevated railroads and the steam dummies on the west side. The original ban was south of 14th Street, too. Without those very real bans, the waterfront terminals for CNJ, PRR, Erie, DL&W and the rest could have been stations within Manhattan instead. |
