That's not why they got rid of the Myrtle Ave el. It was because it required rebuilding and re-fleeting with non-standard equipment (.e. R39L), more then Ronan had the patience for. Better to modernize FAST, cheaply, and claim victory by doing next to nothing: sticking more Fishbowls on the B54. But the residual M train with Arnines were just as miserable as the Q cars (and the Standards). Ditto for the 3rd Avenue el. Culver shuttle disappeared because it had no customers, but they should have done the Lawrence Street/Jay St transfer connection back then because the McDonald Av portion lost its historic access to Wall Street (Broadway-Nassau on the A & C doesn't cut it). Franklin shuttle almost got axed from urban decay. |
