Heh East and West Germans could freely travel within the two halves of Berlin (and into surrounding East Germany) until they built the wall. Even afterward there was odd cooperation, such that West Berliners could transfer between the U-Bahn and the West German S-Bahn routes within East Berlin. The transfer was maintained because ticket revenue for the S-Bahn went to East Germany and the East wanted to capitalize on that... lol. |
