I can personally testify to seeing (and riding) them on the J- once. It was December 1999, I was riding from Broad to Essex in the morning rush. I was pleasantly surprised.I noticed that the letter J was different that on the R42s/40Ms. On the Slant, it had a real fishhook look to it- the hook part went up at least 1/3 of the vertical part of the letter- and it seemed less rounded at the bottom. That was the one and only time I ever even saw them on the J. I thought at the time and still do think that the set was borrowed from the L. Maybe there were a bunch of 42/40Ms acting up that day and East NY had no spares, so they borrowed a set from Canarsie... |
