Re: Why Does NYU Have Its Own Private Bus System?

Kingsborough Community College also runs its own buses because the MTA service is too unreliable and too many students were arriving late because they had to wait 30 minutes for a bus that was due every five or ten minutes or because MTA buses were too crowded to pick everyone up.

I agree with you partially. Eastbound B1 buses arriving at KCC right before classes start are completely jammed leaving Brighton Beach Ave/Coney Island Ave, with large numbers of students boarding through the back door. But those who don't time their travel down to the last possible minute and get to the stop little earlier face a lot less crowding and don't need to let buses pass by.

KCC has a new shuttle bus service from 36/4 and 59/4 marketed to students living in "Sunset Park, Red Hook, Park Slope, etc.," but wouldn't it be faster and more efficient for them to take the D/N to Stillwell and get the shuttle bus there?
