The original connector proposal had the subway trains turning into the old Grant Ave station. That would have meant that the structures just east and west of Grant would have to have been rebuilt, along with the station, itself. The current portal and tracks bypassed the elevated Grant Ave structures and connected into the Dual Contracts extension, above Liberty Ave. Since the current connector crosses several blocks diagonally, more buildings had to be condemned. As you might have expected, this new route met with a lot of opposition, at the time. |
