I don’t disagree, however, I think the days of the separate C/R and T/O titles are coming to an end. I suspect that the MTA is going to try to ram OPTO down the union’s throat and it will start by eliminating the C/R title per se and setting it up the Canadian way. T/O #1 will operate N/B and T/O #2 will work the doors. On the return trip T/O #2 will operate and T/O #1 will work the doors. Eventually, lines where it is deemed safe to do so will be made 100% OPTO because the powers that be will cite procedures on other transit systems that use long trains like WMATA and convince the arbitrators to go along with management. Of course, not all lines would be considered suitable for OPTO, but those that are will become such. In addition, with modern technology such as closed circuit TV as is used in Philly, OPTO will become safer than at present. |
