Probably - at least the portions south of the Dual Contract extension. But a lot of work was done to the El in the 1950s- upgraded signals, new interlocking north of 149th Street, boosting it up over the Cross Bronx Expressway. I'm sure strengthening the portion south of Fordham was eminently doable.

As for the stations, if they got lengthened, a few would have probably had to be eliminated.

In the end, no stations were lengthened, and they were all eliminated. And the MTA as proud of doing so.
