I remember in the early 1980s I could get from Midtown Manhattan to my 8th Avenue Sea Beach train station in like 40 minutes or even less! The trains ran Full Tilt Express from Pacific Street 236th Street, no slowing down. When I was in high school I would transfer at 4th Avenue 9th Street and when I was waiting for the fourth annual local to come, the express trains would roar by going about 50 miles an hour it seems. Now the train is practically stopped at 25th Street and just limps into 36th Street |
