There is this misconception that Barclay Centre is on the location the pos O'Malley wanted to build his ballpark. Actually it is several blocks away. O'Malley wanted to build his park where the LIRR terminal is with the train yards on Atlantic Avenue serving as a parking lot. But the one short coming the site had and still has is the lack of highway access. As that part of the infrastructure of Brooklyn hasn't changed all that much since 1957, how would all the cars get into that area. As much as I despise Robert Moses who was a poor excuse for a human being, in this instance he was probably right. It wasn't so much Flushing that dissuaded O'Malley, it was the irresponsible offer of the city government of Los Angeles that saw the $ signs dancing in his eyes.
