The original idea was that it would turn east under Central Park then north to 2 Av somewhere around 61st St. Later this was revised into a new East River tunnel connecting with Queens Blvd south of 46th St (allegedly there's a bellmouth which goes straight under Broadway where the tunnel curves into Steinway). This of course eventually morphed into the 63 St line. |
