One thing which comes to mind is that on the Queens side, it's basically a straight shot to 41 Av, whereas a 61 St tunnel would require either a diagonal jog to 41 Av (extra distance + needs to factor in LIRR clearances) or underpinning the Queensbridge Houses. |
