The PRR was broke & couldn't afford a major cleanup. I don't know what they got for the air rights when the wrecking ball showed up.I remember going thru the original Penn Sta as a kid with my parents & the place was filthy and neglected. It had the aura of a medieval dungeon whereas GCT, in its dirtiest NYCRR/PC years always, to me anyway, was a planetarium or cathedral with trains. Dirty as the ceiling was, you could still see traces of the constellations. GCT Just had a better feel to me if that makes any sense. |
