I have vintage Pantone swatches from "the era" (that is, c.1973), and I can tell you that the green on both sides matched more PMS 355 than PMS 354. Slightly darkening that, plus slightly lightening the light blue routes (3, 8, E and M) would, I presume, have been of help for those seeing those maps in dimly lit stations (especially along certain sections of the IND). Plus being more in line with what was printed on the rollsigns of the newer cars (i.e. R40 onwards). |
