"Never mind this conductor propoganda!"Its not propaganda, it is truth. The engineer runs the train & the conductor conducts transportation inasmuch overseeing all aspects train handleing and paperwork (shipping orders & waybills), its personnel & compliance with all safety rules. Loosely translated, the Conductor is the boss. My son was a freight conductor for CN years ago. Systemwide speed limit on all their trackage (then) was 40 mph. Their book of rules clearly states that if the engineer goes over the 40mph speed limit, it is the conductors responsibility to "advise" the engineer twice if necessary to slow down. If the instruction is ignored a second time, the conductor is to dump the train. My son did exactly that one time when his train was doing 51mph.He got a commundation & the engineer got an unpaid vacation. The engineer threatning to throw him off the train didn't help his cause either. Just another day in the life of a freight conductor. |
