Re: [PHOTOS] Myrtle Ave ''el'' Comes Down (Myrtle & Flatbush)

When I first started riding the Myrtle el in the late 1950s, there was a free paper transfer at Bridge/Jay St in both directions unrestricted. Over the years the various restrictions with which most of us are familiar, were put on the transfer. As for the transfer from/to Myrtle at the old 4 Ave line Myrtle (Gold St) station, as part of the dual contracts, it was planned to build a station on the el at Flatbush and a convenient connection to the subway station. That combined with the eventual rebuilding of the Fulton el for steel cars and routing into the subway at Ashland Pl would have achieved the ultimate removal of rapid transit tracks from the Bkln Br which did occur but not the way it was originally proposed.
