Ireland: Video of Great Northern's Bundoran Express (Dublin-Bundoran), 1954

Posted by Olog-hai on Thu Oct 12 04:07:25 2017

This train ran from 1947 to 1957, when the through railroads into Northern Ireland were closed except for the Dublin-Belfast line. Locomotive is S-class 4-4-0 number 171 "Slieve Gullion", built by Beyer Peacock in 1913 and rebuilt in 1938; CIE would retire this one in 1965 and it's still around today thanks to the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland, although it last ran in 2002.

The train ran directly north out of Amiens Street Station (today Connolly Station) to Dundalk, then would change direction to go west via Clones and Enniskillen to reach the former Enniskillen and Bundoran Railway.
