When there was freight in Yard A in Sunnyside, this was a very important piece of track. Yard A survived into the early days of NYAR but nowhere near as busy as it once was. Then Yard A was removed for East Side Access construction. The same rationale was given for the abandonment of the Montauk Cutoff-- the viaduct is in the path of some upcoming ESA work.Without Yard A, it was a very rarely used connecting track. Without the connection, it's an extra yard track in Blissville. |
