But given the politics of the day, there was no way whatsoever the el could have survived. As I'm sure you know, it survived the 1940s on the premise that the SAS would replace it. Then, in the 1950s, the powers that were said, essentially, "F*** that. Tear it down now".62 years later, we're still waiting for a real SAS. Yes, I'm grateful we got the Stubway. But we all know it's not enough. |
