Jersey Transit took over the routes operated by Intercity Bus Company. When we lived in Pompton Plains, Northeast Coach Lines operated bus service to PABT from Culver Lake or Newfoundland, down Rt. 23 through Pompton Plains and Pequannock via the old Newark-Pompton Turnpike and continued south on 23 to Cedar Grove, where buses would turn onto Ridge Road back to US 46. They'd swing over to NJ 3 to the Lincoln Tunnel. During rush hours, they would go directly to US 46 from 23, bypassing Cedar Grove altogether. I saw a timetable for 197 a few years back and noticed that they even have buses that bypass Pompton Plains and stay on Rt. 23.

Having bus service through that town made it very convenient to go to the city. That's how I commuted to the city every Saturday for three years and in the process, got to know the subway system.
