Hello NateYES -- I agree with you and take your word. My father, who worked the IRT "EL'S" (Manhattan Railway Div.) in June 1940 and lived 1/2 block from the Anderson Ave. Station -- long ago told me about "a few wooden EL cars" left for use on the shuttle immediately after city takeover -- I now presume at this time he meant the "Composite" cars as - heh - being "the EL Cars". He was very observant but wasn't a railfan or historian -- solely a very system-interested IRT employee. I assumed he meant "MUDC EL cars" because I long later knew Composites (wooden ex-subway cars) were used for the start of shuttle service. UNLESS, he may have seen that one surviving MUDC car you refer to and thought at the time there were a few more with it retained for service use. So now all this time later, a valid correction, and thanks ! Joe F |
