I purchased on my own Osh Kosh stripes. Then they were discontinued. Then I purchased and wore Pointer Brand. After 1988, CTA did not allow motormen to no longer wear the stripes. A grievance was filed by a now retired, and personal friend of mine motorman saying that we can wear our traditional uniforms because of a paragraph that was inserted in Amalgamated Transit Union 308's contract that was never removed. The arbitrator ruled that we can wear our stripes, but they may not be used from our uniform allowance. In other words we bought them out of our own pocket. In 1998, CTA started allowing motormen to purchase stripes and were made available at the uniform store.
