The current configuration of the platform heights is different from the way the station was originally built. As originally built, the 2 westernmost tracks ascended to the grade of the westernmost track with the intention of both tracks going onto the Bkln Br. The 2 easternmost tracks were at the same grade of the N/B middle track. The idea being that trains from the Willy B would continue back to Bkln over the Bkln Br and trains coming from the Manny B would descend under the Bkln Br tks to Nassau St and return to Bkln via the Montague St tube. By the time the Nassau St subway was actually built, it was apparent that the Bkln Br was not going to be connected to the Centre St subway so the grades of the tracks were rebuilt to their current configuration with the outside tks connecting to Nassau St and the inside tks being used for short turns with the relay tk S/O the station.
