The temporary station at Bronx Park, was that at the front of the Bronx Zoo?

Where the did the el structure physically end?

Stef:
The structure ended at 181st Street. The IRT had planned to build a large terminal at 182nd Street and Boston Road. The zoo authorities objected to a busy rail terminal right at the park’s southern border. (182nd Street / Bronx Park South). The IRT then constructed a temporary terminal called 180st Street – Bronx Park. It was a two track station with a single island platform. It opened on November 26, 1904 and was replaced by a permanent station on October 28, 1910. The permanent station had two tracks as well as a single island and two side platforms.

The zoo feared that the IRT might be extended along Boston Road to Bronxdale. This would have been the logical route for the subway to take. Due to the zoo’s opposition to this route the White Plains Road Line makes a sharp turn to the east just north of East Tremont Avenue Station to East 180th Street – Morris Park Avenue Station.
