I seem to to remember that the Silverliner MU"s built for the RDG side had a different pilot than the ones built for the Pennsy side. I think the SEPTA"s civil engineers determined sometime later that the RDG ones could be deficient in some circumstances, and those cars were retrofitted with the Pennsy type.

I also remember the NH M-2's as delivered had no pilots at all, then later got them, though different looking than the M-1's. I do not know why they left it off to begin with. None of these cars were built by Budd.
