The R44s will be replaced in the next 5 years. That's an unavoidable cost. If you replace the R44s with an LRV then you can improve performance without making changes to the power infrastructure. If you replace the R44s with whatever new rolling stock NYCT eventually orders and you want them to achieve the same performance then you'll be replacing both the rolling stock and the power infrastructure. That's two very expensive things to replace as compared to just one with an LRV approach. |
