"...and rightfully so. I was still living in Queens at that time & those R-10s sent to Queens Blvd were in sorry shape. Door leafs broken, hot, dimly lit, dead motors, filthy...on & on. Minimal maintence done, if that. If it charged up..it went on the road seemed to be the attitude.. It was a struggle for them to keep track speed with a midday day load, no less a rush Hr crowd. The genius that ordered 30+ yr old poorly maintained eqiptment to run on a heavily used trunk line in express service should have had his head handed to him on a platter. The R-10s should have been placed in lesser demand service, Like the RR Ft Hamilton to Astoria local or 14th st & Myrtle Ave lines. They should have sent R-16 & R-27/30s for E & F Queens Blvd service. They were far from pristeen shape, but they had to be better runners than the R-10s of the day. IMO |
