The LIRR diesel coach fleet is now far too tiny of 134 cars. There are actually fewer sets than the P-S fleet they replaced - faulty seat math by the capital planning department. Montauk Branch ridership is up 45% in 5 years. They have to raid every Oyster Bay and Port Jeff rush hour consist 1 to 2 coaches every summer Friday. There is also mass amounts of deadheading trainset Sunday night to restock Oyster Bay and Port Jeff yards for AM rush. |
