The Jay Street-Borough Hall station (now Jay Street-Metrotech) runs along Jay Street from Fulton Street to Myrtle Avenue with Willoughby Street in the middle. I understand that Jay Street was (and is) an important thoroughfare but so are Fulton and Myrtle. And, the next station on the Sixth Avenue line, York Street, is also on Jay Street. Come to think of it, doesn't High Street-Brooklyn Bridge station also run lengthwise along what at the time was High Street? I think the IND stations must have been named by a couple guys sitting in a BoT office making things up with no real rules or guidelines.
