It's fairly difficult to get accurate statistics regarding bicycle miles traveled. Ditto for pedestrian miles. Vehicle miles traveled is computed by looking at gasoline tax revenue and inspection mileage. It's a bit more reliable.In its first year Citibike users traveled 14.7 miles with no fatalities. There have not been any Citibike rider fatalities period. Their mileage statistics are more reliable because each bike has GPS tracking and there are accurate origin-destination data. That's the type of utility riding most resembles the 1/2 to 1 mile ride to subway. |
