Those who refuse to learn from history force the rest of us to go "through it all twice". When I was a book salesman (Vintage, Modern Library) we had no accounts that were not transit accessible. Most within a couple blocks of the subway, or in a few cases a bus ride away. I had no accounts along the Myrtle. The few times Irode the lower half, other than the final trip, I remember 'Pay Fare on Train' in mid afternoon. From my Chicago days, ridership mimiced owl ridership[ on the Evanston branch. All that said, ifthe TA had been able to find the $$ to strengthen the structure and buy the R39s the line would be used today. This is a recurring problem in transt because the fixed plant costs are so high. |
