Actually, the huge tax break for MSG started way before Barclays, and continues today. It goes back to the 1980's.
Knick, Ranger and Liberty home games put people to work 100 + nights, notwithstanding the tax revenues on tickets, concessions, players salaries etc. Ask the businesses in the area what the economic importance is to them. That doesn't even consider the other entertainment events that take place there.
I'm not a huge Garden fan, but I can't deny its place in the city. And I certainly wouldn't shed a tear if it moved a couple of blocks.
Better still, replace One and Two Penn Plaza which are generic office buildings. Redevelop the whole block.
