NYC needed a modern sports facility near public transportation and that was the best site.The best site for the builders. They could have purchased the basically crappy buildings and parking lots next to Penn Station and built to their heart's content and they wouldn't have had to tear down a massive existing structure over years. But they did it the way they did so they wouldn't have to deal with the owners of many small parcels and petition the city for permission to close 30th street from 7th to 8th Avenues. |
