One of the interesting things I remember from my command center days is the rather loose way the Flushing Line was operated. I also remember it from my days going to Queens College when all AM flushing line trains were signed for Main St and it was a guessing game as to whether the train I was on would be going through to Main or going O/S at 111 St. When I was in the command center, I would get a call from a M/M reporting a badly cracked side door glass on his lead motor or some other defect possibly something like a slow train. I would notify the ATD at 111 who would respond something like “OK command center, we’ll make that a scheduled layup.” Now the train may have been scheduled for Main St but that train would,be taken O/S at 111 St and sent to the yard and a following train which was scheduled to go O/S at 111 and lay up would remain in service through to Main St.
