Stand at 59th/4th for the next 3 weekends (during the continuation of the Atlantic Ave trackwork) and you'll be shocked at the 25-30 minute waits all afternoon & evening for the R train. Headways have been cut to a theoretical 12 minutes during this weekend trackwork, but real-time headways become 25-30 minutes.Trains sometime leave 95th a minute or two late, and same at 71/Continental (where they sometimes have to come onto the loudspeaker to "shut it down" at 71/Continental.) Delays then magnify. Also, around 6pm/6:30pm, deadhead trains are sent out of 95th to 59th, then backtrack down the N line towards Coney Island. Recently the northbound R was stuck at Bay Ridge Ave for 10+ minutes due to a red signal up ahead (caused by the deadhead train). Escaped via the D at 36th to Midtown, ran an errand, and caught up to the same R 20 minutes later. That R train out of 95th was now running 20-25 minutes late to 71/Continental, all because of the deadhead train sent out of 95th immediately ahead of it. |
