I wondered about the same thing in an earlier post:"El cars did run in [the PGS tunnel] prior to that date, but this was probably not considered a subway - just a short tunnel a few blocks [long]." And I also was told years ago that: Q-Types (rebuilt BRT gate cars) and regular BRT gate cars could operate to Main St. terminal, 'due to their design containing more steel'* than Manhattan el cars. *I wrote this as a general description, since I didn't quite remember the specifics - more steel in the undercarriage design or in other parts of the BU's/Q's as well? |
