Polo Grounds Shuttle had El cars replaced with Composites in June 1940, shortly before or after unification & the abandonment of the 9th ave. el. They operated there until March 1950.

El cars did run through the tunnel prior to that date, but this was probably not considered a subway - just a short tunnel a few blocks passing under the Ogden Ave. Ridge (thanks for that cite Roger Arcara!)

Q-Types (rebuilt BRT gate cars) and regular BRT gate cars could operate to Main St. terminal, due to their design containing more steel than Manhattan el cars.

re: the ban, please look at my first post, where I cite the PSC ban of Composites on the IRT main subway lines, as being 1915. Issue here being questioned, is ban date: 1915, or 1918 after Malbone St.
Thanks.
