Could be, but the BMT had its own unique set of terminology that might have seemed like a foreign language to crews on the other divisions. Put ins were called "put outs," layups were called "drop outs," M/M's indication was the "starting light," guard lights were "parking lights," the bypass button was the "door control cutout" or simply "door control" button. A train that was behind on a line with multiple services was "cut" or "cut out," train order signals were "holding lights" end doors (or storm doors) were "bulkhead doors" and interlocking approach signals were called "rear home" signals and second position C/Rs (or "rear guards" as called on the IRT and IND) were "second car men" just to name the terms I remember. |
