But cars were a whole lot cheaper in 1950 than they are today. They're much more expensive even accounting for inflation.Getting the same 94 trainsets out of a 60' fleet means buying nearly 200 additional railcars. 75' cars may be slightly more expensive than a 60' car, but they're not going to be 125% the purchase price, so there is a net savings in going with 75' cars both in terms of capital costs and maintenance. |
