From what I understand,the road was built that way because of Robet Moses's Bushwick Express/Cross-Brooklyn expressway.

There is no doubt in my mind that the IND intended to build past Euclid ave..that is untill the funding dried up.Even when they did get money in the 50's,the Board Of Transportation decided NOT to push the line under Pitkin ave,but DID connect to the Fulton EL and the Rockaway line..as THIS turned out to be the less expensive routing.

If the bottom did drop out,and WW2 didn't happen AND if the TA grew a pair..then MAYBE we would have a subway under Linden Blvd in Queens today.
