MTA can't buy the system, and it can't be integrated into the subway.Airtrain was built using surcharges and fees collected from airline passengers, specifically a $3 "airport improvement fee" on all outbound tickets. This fee can only be used for supporting the needs of the airport and those who use it. That's why the Airtrain has no intermediate stations on the Jamaica branch. The a airlines actually sued to stop airtrain because it left the airport. |
