The provisions from the Queens IND line into the station we now know as Jamaica-Van Wyck was already in place with the original construction of the main line during the 1930's. As early as 1931 (and confirmed by a savings bank issued map in that year), plans were drawn up to have a stub-end terminal to be called "Jamaica-Hillside Avenues", but never were done.

So, when the Archer Line began construction on August 15, 1972, its plans were able to incorporate the unused provisions east of the Briarwood-Van Wyck Boulevard station to a crossover point under Hillside Avenue. The standard IND incandescent lighting fixtures were installed in anticipation back then, but never used until they were finally energized and then lighted up when the route finally became active.
