Actually, G/Y is not a problem since there are speed markers at switch locations that specify the speed to be taken over a switch. Absent any speed sign, the prescribed speed if a train is moving to either the right or left over a switch is 10 MPH. The reason that movement to the left or right is mentioned is that there are many curved "main routes" such as B1 tk S/O W 4 St and D2 tk N/O 9 Av on the West End. At 142 St Jct on the IRT Lenox Line, the main route is the curve to the right through the Harlem River tube and the diverging route is the physically straight route into 145 St.
