Posted by Joe on Thu Jun 13 11:18:44 2013, in response to Massapequa pocket track, posted by Joe on Mon May 20 10:32:16 2013. This morning, Thursday, June 13, 2013, I took a look at morning boardings at Massapequa. No surprises. It's a twelve-car platform, and the west four car lengths are now closed. Westbound trains stop at their regular markers, and the barricade across the platform is at the 8-car mark. The sign there promises completion of the station work by August 2015.--- Eastbound, the former 8-car and 10-car markers are bagged. New 10-car and 8-car markers are rather close to the east end of the station, maybe within the length of a single car. A friend explains that some eastbound passengers ignore the repeated warnings to move forward (out of cars 9 thru 12) and then learn that those cars really don't open at Massapequa. Then other travelers must wait for them to walk through. As it is, the eastbound local schedule has been padded for years. --- A worker said the west canopies, where the platform is closed, will be removed soon. On the east end, the escalator was not working today. It, too, is scheduled for removal soon, before replacement. |
