I'm not so sure about that. There is activity in Lower Manhattan on the weekends, but it tends to be around touristy areas. Also, remember that the financial industry was entrenched in the area until recently, so that meant people would go there for work and not much else. OTOH, midtown became the long term residence of the shopping and theater districts, with landmarks like Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Macy's, etc., so it stands to reason it would get more activity on the weekends. |
