But people paid that extra nickel in the evening, instead of having to trudge back to Willets Point all at once. By then they all had been walking around the grounds all day,doing stuff. And admittedly, the IND was still only the 8th Ave line for much of the fair.

That's was one of the complaints voiced about the 1964 - 65 World's Fair. The Lake Amusement Area was located in the same area as in the 1938 - 39 World's Fair and would stay open some hours later than the main fairgrounds. People leaving the Amusement Area late at night has a long walk back along deserted streets and closed pavilions to get back to the IRT.
