And if and whenever the NH Line goes into Penn, the M-8s will run under the wire from CP 216 (SHELL Interlocking, New Rochelle) to a point just before Gate Interlocking (at a catenary dead section) where the M-8 will changeover (similar to Pelham) from overhead to third rail, and run via third rail to NYP. For reasons of weight reduction and the prevention of a loss of seating room, the M-8s were not equipped with the transformer which would have allowed for them to run all the way into Penn under wire. M-8s starting from 9138/39 thru the 9200s are equipped with the third rail shoes which are capable of running on both MNR and LIRR third rails. The shoe beam is movable (where the shoe is mounted) which can allow the shoe to ride atop the LIRR third rail and make it able to run on MNR's underunning third rail.
